A.D. 2222. Emerald is the last artificial outpost before the end of the known galaxy, a satellite ship that has effectively become a stand-alone planet. Emerald owes its name to the fact that it was the first ship to cross the cosmos with the “power crystals”, the invention that allowed interstellar voyage; now it’s almost forgotten, the last, old and forgotten station for ships departing towards unknown galaxies, none of which have ever come back.
The known universe is ruled by the Corporation, an organization born for mere interstellar trade intentions which saw its power excessively grown over the years, establishing a sort of tyranny, an oligarchy hidden behind commercial purposes.
More than a century has passed since the Earth has been declared uninhabitable; all the colonized planets have reached their saturation point and there is no more place for new inhabitants, births are controlled and colonies’ poor living conditions has driven a lot of people to take a leap into the void towards new worlds.
Over the last 20 years, the Emerald saw the birth of an underground revolt led by the “Prophet”; for many people, just an old madman, but for the few who know the secret hidden behind the mask of insanity thus built, one of the few remaining architects, son of a son of interstellar ship builders, capable to give new life to the Emerald and to guarantee a way out to other worlds to all the outcasts, the scum kept away from the Corporation and isolated on a ship now forgotten, once the diamond head of its fleet.
The Prophet cares about his people, and the orbiting ship lives the dream with so much hope and a renewed desire to fight. The Prophet once met a woman on the Emerald, simply known as the “Duchess”, leads to poverty by the Corporation; she is too intelligent, too strong and proud to succumb to despair, choosing exile on Emerald instead of defeat. The Prophet and the Duchess fall in love, pursuing the dream to bring the vessel back to life. The aim is not to try another leap into the void, but to go back to Earth and restart from the beginning. Thanks to reliable sources, friends and fellow soldiers’ sacrifice, the Rebel Forces know that to go back to Earth is now possible; a cycle has finally passed, all conditions to allow human life have been restored. The Corporation tried to hide it, but the strength of hope that feeds the Prophet, the Duchess and their followers has created a huge information network…
The Prophet and the Duchess know that they may not be alive the day the Emerald will start its voyage, and for sure the day it will land on Earth, and they know that they have to train their only daughter so that she can be ready to pursue their dream once they will be no more.
This woman’s real name is unknown, but for everyone she’s only “Lady Swan”. Together with her elderly parents, despite having hidden this kinship until now for a matter of security, she holds the reins of a what is known as Galactic Resistance; the purpose is not just to go back to Earth, but to establish an egalitarian council in once man’s homeland, that will bring the known universe to a peaceful life for everyone… probably just a dream, but strong enough to lead all rebels’ hopes.
The Prophet’s disease is coming to an end, but before saying goodbye to his beloved ones, the starship is ready for the long journey back to Earth. Also the Duchess is exhausted and sick, but she knows that her daughter is strong and ready to guide the rebel forces; she is fighting to survive as long as she can, because she knows to be considered as a key figure. Finally everything is ready, the grand plan is coming true. It’s time to leave the deep and dark corner of the firmament that has been their home for years, but instead of travelling to the unknown, the final destination is the “lost” planet Earth.
